Environmental Racism - How To Avoid It

Environmental Racism - How To Avoid It?Environmental racism has the potential to be very costly in the long run. All those living in places of great natural beauty are exposed to many negative impacts of environmental racism that often go unnoticed or unreported. Some people just do not appreciate or understand what it is like to live in natural beauty. For instance, they may feel that the city has taken too much from nature and reduced its visual appeal. In fact, the city does take care of its beautiful nature to the extent that it has made good use of eco-friendly technologies. But sometimes, we tend to forget that we can also use that technology to our advantage. For instance, one of the most crucial issues of environmental racism is the way that the rich are treated by the native community members. For example, the Indian tribes of the Amazon region are able to grow only about two million mangoes every year. But at the same time, they produce more coconuts and macadamia nuts than o ther tropical forests. The reason why the Indians are not harvesting the nuts properly is because they are scared that if the US establishes a peace accord with the Indians, they won't be able to harvest their coconuts. It is common knowledge that the coconuts are the most important part of their diets. As a result, the conflict between the two communities often escalates because of environmental racism. The 'free for all' of agitating and burning coconuts is a classic example of such an issue. To make matters worse, if the coconuts are not burned, a lot of organic matter from the forests will be released into the environment. This means that the indigenous communities are not only not able to defend themselves from destructive activities carried out by the cattle ranchers and other well-intentioned citizens, but their own food sources are being destroyed too. Again, this has a negative impact on the natural beauty of the rain forest. This is true for any type of pollution costs. Let us take the most famous example - the ozone layer. If we have an effective tool to reduce pollution in the air, that can help reduce some of the damage done to the ozone layer and the negative impacts to the environment and the human health. In the end, environmental racism cannot be completely stopped by citizens but they need to understand and recognize the effects of such problem. So if you see environmental racism happening in your neighborhood, consider using such a tool to help protect the environment and its inhabitants. Be sure to include the natives in the research paper as well!
